About the project

QuotaLantern sits in the system tray and shows how much of the fullest window you have used across Codex, Claude, Gemini and other providers. The icon's ring follows a single recent, named window — never a total or an average — and every state has its own shape: stale readings are dashed with a clock and missing ones are dotted, instead of showing 0%.

The overview has one card per provider, with a bar for each window, the next reset, where the data came from and how old the reading is. API costs are shown in currency and never feed the ring. There is no telemetry: each adapter reads its credential where the provider already keeps it, and the installer copies none. Inspired by Peter Steinberger's CodexBar.

Highlights

  • Usage ring legible at 16 px, with states told apart by shape — not just by color.
  • Adapters for Codex, Claude, Gemini, Kiro, Cursor, Grok, OpenCode Go and more, with each one's verification level documented.
  • A missing reading is “unknown”, never zero; currency costs are never shown as quota.
  • Installer with --dry-run, opt-in autostart and a rollback command printed at the end.
  • 128 synthetic offline tests in CI on Python 3.12 and 3.14, with no network or real files.
  • Tested on KDE Plasma with Wayland; bilingual website with no cookies or third-party assets.
